Our alcohol home detox program is designed for people who can safely complete alcohol withdrawal at home with medical support. To be eligible, you must:
- Be dependant on alcohol dependence or experience withdrawal symptoms when not drinking
- Have a reliable support person who can stay with you during the seven-day detox period
- Be medically suitable for home-based care following a confidential assessment
- Be willing to engage in daily doctor-led medical reviews and follow clinical guidance
A support person is usually a trusted family member or close friend. They do not need medical training, their role is to provide reassurance, observe for changes, and contact our team if any concerns arise.
When a Home Detox May Not Be Suitable
In some situations, alcohol withdrawal is safer in a hospital or inpatient setting. A home detox may not be appropriate if you:
- Have a history of severe alcohol withdrawal, seizures, or delirium tremens (DTs)
- Have uncontrolled medical or psychiatric conditions
- Do not have a support person available during the detox period
A confidential medical assessment is completed before starting to ensure the safest care pathway for you.
