Naltrexone is an evidence-based treatment which supports abstinence and reduces severity of relapse in alcohol use disorder. It is not an adverse agent, and drinking alcohol whilst taking Naltrexone will not cause any adverse effects.
Naltrexone must not be used alongside opiates, including methadone, as this can cause opioid withdrawal syndrome. Patients taking Naltrexone must carry a Medical Alert Card at all times in case of emergencies. AIR Detox can send your GP practice these Medical Alert Cards for free. Just contact us with the name and address of your practice and we can arrange this.
