What To Expect

Your step-by-step guide to our alcohol home detox program

Stage 1. Preparation (1—2 weeks)

Before we start the detox, we take a few important steps to ensure your safety and comfort. First, you’ll meet with our doctor for a free comprehensive medical assessment where we’ll learn about your health history and relationship with alcohol. This helps us create a personalised alcohol home detox plan just for you.

We’ll also meet your support person and explain their role in your detox journey. Afterwards, you’ll need some blood tests and must start taking vitamin B1 (thiamine), which protects your brain during the alcohol detox process.

There will be about a week between your first appointment and starting your home detox — this important time allows your body to build up essential vitamin stores required for a safe detox. We’ll stay in touch regularly during this preparation week to support you and make sure you’re ready for a successful alcohol home detox experience.

Stage 2. Alcohol Home Detox (1 week)

Each morning you will have an appointment with our doctor to check on your progress, help manage any cravings and adjust your medications as needed. Our doctor will keep in regular contact with you throughout the day to ensure your comfort and safety. You and your support person will also have a direct line to our doctor for any questions or concerns that arise.

The entire process takes place in the comfort of your own home – no clinical settings or prying eyes. This approach allows you to maintain your privacy while receiving premium medical care, giving you the freedom to focus on your recovery without completely disrupting your normal routine and responsibilities.

Stage 3. Aftercare (12 months)

Together, we’ll develop a personalised aftercare plan that aligns with your long-term goals and personal preferences. This roadmap gives you the confidence to navigate your recovery journey with long-term support from us. Over the next 12 months you’ll have regular check-in appointments to celebrate your progress, address any challenges, and adjust your plan as needed. We’ll be here to support you throughout your recovery, helping you stay on track towards a happier, healthier lifestyle.

What Our Patients Say

Signs & Symptoms Of Alcohol Dependency

How do I know if I need an alcohol detox?

Our home detox program is designed for people who are dependent on alcohol. But what does that mean? Typically, we treat patients who drink alcohol every day and need to drink to stop them entering into withdrawal symptoms. Here are some common signs that may indicate that you or a loved one has developed a dependency on alcohol:

  • Increasing tolerance, meaning you have to drink more to achieve the same effect.
  • Experience withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, shaking, sweating, nausea, or insomnia when not drinking.
  • Difficulty controlling or reducing alcohol intake despite repeated attempts.
  • Persistent drinking despite negative consequences that affect personal relationships, work, or health.
  • Significant time spent drinking, recovering from its effects, or thinking about drinking.
  • Neglecting responsibilities or hobbies due to alcohol use.

If you identify with one or more of these signs, you could benefit from our alcohol home detox program. At AIR Detox, we provide compassionate, non-judgemental support to help you regain control and achieve lasting recovery. Contact us to see how we can help.

Eligibility Criteria

Who can safely detox at home from alcohol?

Most people are eligible for our alcohol home detox because we provide close medical supervision. However, to ensure your safety, you must have a support person who can stay with you during the seven-day withdrawal period. A support person is usually a loved one or close friend who you would like to be involved in your care. They don’t need any medical training and just need to keep a close eye on you at whilst you detox at home.
