What Is a Doctor-Led Home Detox?

A safe, medically supervised way to withdraw from alcohol or other substances at home

With AIR Detox, you don’t need to put your life on hold to get the help you need. Our doctor-led home detox service allows you to withdraw in the comfort and privacy of your own home, with medical care brought directly to you. We support people who experience withdrawal symptoms when they stop drinking or using substances, and who need structured medical oversight to do so safely. Throughout the detox, our medical team provides daily reviews, symptom management, and prescription medication when clinically appropriate.

Being at home means you can remain in familiar surroundings, with the people and routines that help you feel supported. Our focus is on safety, dignity, and helping you get through the withdrawal process as comfortably as possible. Once the detox is complete, we continue to support you with 12 months of follow-up care, including clinical check-ins, relapse-prevention planning, and guidance around next steps, so you’re not left on your own after detox.

Who Is Suitable for a Home Detox?

A home detox is suitable for people who are physically dependent on alcohol or other substances and experience withdrawal symptoms when they try to stop or cut down. Our service is designed for people who need medical oversight to manage withdrawal safely, while remaining in the comfort and familiarity of their own home. Every person is different. That’s why all patients complete a medical assessment before starting, to ensure a home detox is safe and appropriate for their situation.

You may be suitable for a home detox if you:

    • Drink or use substances most days
    • Have tried to stop before and experienced symptoms such as anxiety, shaking, sweating, nausea, poor sleep, or agitation
    • Feel unwell or distressed when you miss a day or reduce your intake
    • Are concerned about the risks of withdrawing without medical support
    • Prefer a safe, private alternative to hospital-based detox
    • Have a safe home environment and a reliable support person available during the detox period

A home detox may not be suitable if:

  • You do not experience withdrawal symptoms when you stop using
  • Your substance use is occasional or social
  • You are able to stop safely without medical support
  • You have uncontrolled or unstable medical conditions that require hospital-level care
  • You have complex or acute psychiatric conditions that need more intensive mental health support
  • You do not have a reliable support person available during the detox period
